Overall, I am very pleased with the amount of work that I was able to complete this semester. I worked mainly on the wheel. I also began hand building near the end of the semester. I would love to continue my work with ceramics as it is one of my favorite mediums. I have a lot to learn. Over my three ceramics classes at Albertus, I feel that I have learned and grown a lot. I look forward to building strength on the wheel in order to throw big serving bowls and vases in the future.

Succulent Planters 12/5

I decided to plant small succulents in my cylinder shaped ceramic vessels. I also planted them in mugs that held less than 6 ounces of water. I think they turned out looking spectacular! I wanted to share! I absolutely love the way they came out. It looks like they would be found in a fancy boutique shop. There are seven in total, two in cylinders and 5 in mini mugs.

Glazed Pieces 12/4

Here are the pieces that I glazed! They are all loaded into the kiln now. I can’t wait to see how they come out looking!

Research: Lucie Rie

I found the works of Lucie Rie to be very interesting. I love the forms. The bottom of the vessel is very narrow and opens up at the top. The vessels are also very thin. I love the incised lines on the work. The glazing is gorgeous, especially on the pink bowl. I think that the way these pieces are photographed is brilliant. The reflection of the piece is a work of art in itself. More information can be found about the artist at the link below! There are also larger versions of the images. The photographs are truly breathtaking. The reflection makes them seem very eerie.

Studio Work 12/1

Today I started my final bisque firing. I also finished glazing a few pieces. I will go to the studio again on Friday to see if the pieces are cool. If they are cool enough, I will glaze them and start two glaze firings.
